Jargon File
The Jargon File is a glossary of hacker slang. The original Jargon File was a collection of hacker slang from technical cultures including the MIT AI Lab, the Stanford AI Lab (SAIL), and others of the old ARPANET AI/LISP/PDP-10 communities including Bolt, Beranek and Newman (BBN), Carnegie Mellon University, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).

Das Jargon File ist ein berühmtes Kompendium der Hacker-Ausdrucksweise. Es wird zur Zeit von Eric S. Raymond betreut und enthält ein Lexikon über verschiedene Begriffe des Hackens. Außerdem gibt es Einblicke in unterschiedliche Bereiche der ursprünglichen Netz- und Hackerkultur. Das Jargon File ist auch im Buchhandel unter dem Titel The New Hacker's Dictionary erhältlich. Es wurde aufgrund vieler Wortspiele und der Eigentümlichkeit etlicher Begriffe nicht ins Deutsche übersetzt.

Il Jargon File è un documento originariamente redatto da Raphael Finkel della Stanford University e attualmente mantenuto da Eric S. Raymond, uno dei massimi esponenti della cultura hacker nel mondo. Esso è essenzialmente un vocabolario del gergo usato dagli hacker e dai professionisti dell'IT, ma contiene anche definizioni e regole di buona educazione da rispettare in rete (netiquette).

O Jargon File é um glossário que foi mantido no MIT-AI antes de ser publicado em livro como o Hacker's Dictionary. Muitos anos depois de o livro ter sido publicado, Eric S. Raymond o pegou, atualizou e o republicou como o New Hacker's Dictionary. Algumas pessoas que faziam parte do universo onde o original foi criado argumentam que Eric, no processo de atualização, destruiu o dicionário: mudou a ênfase principal de Lisp para UNIX, diversificou o que antes era o único registro cultural de um grupo e adicionou vários tipos de termos que são "jargão" apenas no sentido de serem termos técnicos.
