Domain name system
On the Internet, the Domain Name System (DNS) associates various sorts of information with so-called domain names; most importantly, it serves as the "phone book" for the Internet by translating human-readable computer hostnames, e.g. en.wikipedia.org, into the IP addresses, e.g. 66.230.200.100, that networking equipment needs for delivering information. It also stores other information such as the list of mail exchange servers that accept email for a given domain. In providing a worldwide keyword-based redirection service, the Domain Name System is an essential component of contemporary Internet use.

Domain Name System, system nazw domenowych) to system serwerów oraz protokół komunikacyjny zapewniający zamianę adresów znanych użytkownikom Internetu na adresy zrozumiałe dla urządzeń tworzących sieć komputerową. Dzięki wykorzystaniu DNS nazwa mnemoniczna, np. pl.wikipedia.org, może zostać zamieniona na odpowiadający jej adres IP, czyli 145.97.39.155.

Domain Name System (spesso indicato con DNS) è un servizio utilizzato per la risoluzione di nomi di host in indirizzi IP e viceversa. Il servizio è realizzato tramite un database distribuito, costituito dai server DNS. Il nome DNS denota anche il protocollo che regola il funzionamento del servizio, i programmi che lo implementano, i server su cui questi girano, l'insieme di questi server che cooperano per fornire il servizio. I nomi DNS, o "nomi di domino", sono una delle caratteristiche più visibili di Internet.

Het Domain Name System (DNS) is het systeem en protocol dat op het Internet voornamelijk gebruikt wordt om domeinnamen naar IP-adressen te vertalen en omgekeerd. Een DNS-server of Domain Name Server is op deze technologie gebaseerd, en maakt deze vertalingen, zodat computers niet alleen via het (onpraktische) IP-adres benaderd kunnen worden, maar ook via een hostname (computernaam). Ook het omgekeerde is mogelijk (reverse DNS): een IP-adres wordt vertaald naar de ingestelde hostname. Hoewel dit de meest gebruikte mogelijkheden zijn, wordt DNS ook op andere manieren gebruikt, bijvoorbeeld voor het bepalen van de mailservers voor een domein.

Domain Name System (DNS) はインターネットを使った階層的な分散型データベースシステムである。1983年に情報科学研究所 (ISI) のポール・モカペトリスとジョン・ポステルにより開発された。 インターネットに接続されているすべてのコンピュータは、固有のIPアドレスを持っている。たとえば、ウィキペディア日本語版のwebサーバの持つIPアドレスは2007年4月現在では "211.115.107.162" である。インターネット上のどんなコンピュータにアクセスする際にも最終的にはそのコンピュータの IPアドレスを知る必要がある。しかし、IPアドレスは、3桁までの4つの数値の組み合わせ（IPv4の場合）からなっており、最大12桁の数字の羅列となり覚えにくい。このため、IPアドレスを人間が覚えやすい名前で扱うことができるような機構が考案された。

O sistema de distribuição de nomes de domínio foi introduzido em 1984 e com ele os nomes de hosts residentes em um banco de dados pôde ser distribuído entre servidores múltiplos, baixando assim a carga em qualquer servidor que provê administração no sistema de nomeação de domínios. Ele baseia-se em nomes hierárquicos e permite a inscrição de vários dados digitados além do nome do host e seu IP. Em virtude do banco de dados de DNS ser distribuído, seu tamanho é ilimitado e o desempenho não degrada tanto quando se adiciona mais servidores nele.

Domain Name System (בראשי תיבות: DNS) הוא פרוטוקול המאפשר גישה לבסיס נתונים מבוזר, על מנת שיחידות קצה ברשת האינטרנט יוכלו לתרגם שמות תחום (Domain name) הנוחים יותר לשימוש אנושי טבעי (ה־URL) לכתובות הנומריות האמיתיות (כתובות IP) אליהן הן יפנו בזמן ההתקשרות. באמצעות ה-DNS ניתן להציע שירותים מבוססי שם נוספים, כגון רישום של שרתי דואר. פרוטוקול ה-DNS הומצא על מנת להקל את השימוש של אנשים ברשתות תקשורת. בני אדם זוכרים בקלות שמות, אך לא כתובות מספריות דוגמת כתובות IP. ה-DNS מגשר על הפער הזה על ידי ביצוע המרה בין הכתובת המילולית, אותה זוכר המשתמש, לבין כתובת ה־IP בה למעשה משתמש המחשב על־מנת לתקשר עם היעד.

Jeho hlavním úkolem a prícinou vzniku jsou vzájemné prevody doménových jmen a IP adres uzlu síte. Pozdeji ale pribral další funkce (napr. pro elektronickou poštu ci IP telefonii) a slouží dnes de facto jako distribuovaná databáze sítových informací.

En DNS-server eller navneserver er en server placeret på et IP-baseret datanet, der tager sig af oversættelsen af de navne man normalt arbejder med på Internet. Kommunikation over et IP-baseret datanet kan kun foregå ved hjælp af disse IP-adresser - ligesom telefonnumre. En DNS-server kan sammenlignes med en telefonbog med et alfabetisk register. Navne-serverens arbejde er at oversætte de navne, mennesker har lettere ved at huske til de éntydige IP-adresser, der er nødvendige for netværket funktionalitet. خادم اسم النطاق أو نظام اسم النطاق (DNS) اختصار لجملةDomain Name System هو نظام يخزن معلومات تتعلق بأسماء نطاقات في قاعدة بيانات موزعة على الإنترنت. يقوم خادم اسم النطاق بربط العديد من المعلومات بأسماء النطاقات، ولكن وعلى وجه الخصوص يخزن عنوان الأي بي المرتبط بذلك النطاق. بمعنى آخر هو نظام يقوم بترجمة أسماء النطاقات من كلمات إلى أرقام تعرف باسم (IP Address)، وهذا شيء مهم جدا لأنه من المعلوم أن الحاسوب يتعامل بالأرقام وليس بالكلمات. مثال: عندما تريد الدخول إلى موقع محرك البحث الشهير جوجل تكتب www.google.com الآن حاول أن تدخل إلى شاشة سطر الأوامر (الدوس) واكتب ping www.google.com بعدها سيقوم الـ DNS بترجمته إلى (IP Address)، حاول الآن أن تضع الـ (IP Address) في مكان اسم الموقع بهذا الشكل 64.233.161.104 سيظهر لك الموقع مباشرة وكأنك وضعت اسمه.

Το Domain Name System ή DNS (Σύστημα Ονομάτων Τομέα) είναι ένα σύστημα με το οποίο αντιστοιχίζονται οι διευθύνσεις IP σε ονόματα τομέων (Domain Names). Τα ονόματα τομέων όπως και οι διευθύνσεις IP που αναπαριστούν είναι μοναδικά, έχουν μια ιεραρχία και διαβάζονται απο αριστερά προς τα δεξιά. Η σχεση μεταξυ ενος ονοματος και της διευθυνσης IP δεν ειναι 1 προς 1. Δηλαδη σε ενα ονομα μπορουν να ατιστοιχουν πολλες IP διευθυνσεις. Για παραδειγμα η διευθυνση www.google.gr αντιστοιχει σε τρεις IP διευθυνσεις, την 66.102.9.99 την 66.102.9.104 και την 66.102.9.147 . Σε αυτη την περιπτωση εχουμε τρεις εξυπηρετητες που λειτουργουν ταυτοχρονα εκτελωντας την ιδια δουλεια αλλα μοιραζονται τον φορτο εργασιας δια τρια. Σε αυτη την περιπτωση ο διακομιστης DNS εκτελει εξισοροπηση φορτιου μεταξυ των τριων αλλων διακομιστων.

Domain Name Service. Sistema che consente di assegnare nomi simbolici agli host di Internet suddividendo la rete in sezioni logiche ordinate in modo gerarchico, denominate domini. Un nome simbolico ha la seguente forma: www.pippo.it. Alcuni importanti domini sono: .COM (commerciale, .EDU (educativo), .NET (operazioni di rete), .GOV (governo U.S.A) e .MIL (forze armate U.S.A). Anche molti paesi hanno un dominio. Per esempio, .US (United States), .UK (United Kingdom), .AU (Australia). I domini sono definiti nello STD 13, RFC 1034 e 1035.

Según este método, cada computadora de la red se identifica con una dirección unívoca, la URL (Uniform Resource Locator), compuesta de grupos de letras separados por puntos. Esa dirección se obtiene subdividiendo todas las computadoras en grupos grandísimos llamados TLD (Top Level Domain) que son afines entre sí por alguna razón. Por ejemplo están los TLD basados en la identificación geográfica (donde .ar es Argentina, .uy es Uruguay, .cl es Chile) y los grupos basados en el tipo dominante de actividad (.com para actividades comerciales; .edu para fines educativos).

A Domain Name Server maps IP numbers to a more easily remembered name. When you type http://www.webguest.com into your browser , the DNS (specified when you installed dial-up networking) searchs for a matching IP address (208.28.202.95). If the DNS doesn't find an entry in its database, it will ask other DNSs until the entry is found, and you will see our site. Otherwise, you'll get an error message from your browser.
