Synonym of Cliens
Cliens
In Rome, cliens (plural clientes) referred to the lesser partner in the Ancient Roman social institution of clientela, obligated through a debt of loyalty to repay received favors that he had received from his patronus. The term cliens may be derived from the Latin word cluere (to "hear" or "obey") or be cognate with κλίνω (to "lean" or "depend"). In early times, patrons and clients were patrician and plebeian, respectively.
Klient (starozytny Rzym)
Klient – wolny, lecz ubogi obywatel starożytnego Rzymu, często wyzwolony niewolnik, który pozostawał pod opieką patrona, którym był zwykle patrycjusz. Relacja klient-patron nakładała obowiązki na obie strony - klient musiał być posłuszny patronowi, patron zobowiązany był do opieki nad klientem, a obaj musieli być sobie wierni i lojalni. Pewnym przybliżeniem szczególnej sytuacji klienta jest określenie "ubogi krewny". Status klienteli był dziedziczny.
Cliens
Een cliens was in het oude Rome de beschermeling van een patronus. Tussen de cliens en patronus heerste er amicitas et fides ("vriendschap en trouw"). De clientes brachten hun patronus 's morgensvroeg een salutatio (beleefdheidsbezoek) om hun respect te betuigen. Beide partijen haalden uit deze onderlinge band hun voordeel: de cliens zag zich geruggesteund door zijn patronus en diens familia, terwijl de patronus in oorlogstijd en in de vergaderingen steun kreeg van zijn clientes. De clientes moesten ook mee bijdragen aan de dos (Romeinse bruidschat) van de patronus zijn dochter.
