Synonym of Allopathist

Allopathic medicine refers to the practice of conventional medicine that uses pharmacologically active agents or physical interventions to treat or suppress symptoms or pathophysiologic processes of diseases or conditions. It was coined by Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843), a homeopath, in 1810. Although "allopathic medicine" was rejected as a term by mainstream physicians, it was adopted by alternative medicine advocates to refer pejoratively to conventional medicine.

Allopathie (v. griech. ἄλλως „anders, verschieden“ und πάϑος „Leiden“), auch Allöopathie, war ursprünglich eine Bezeichnung Samuel Hahnemanns für bestimmte nicht-homöopathische Behandlungsmethoden. Später erweiterte Hahnemann den Begriff in die Richtung, in der er heute vor allem in alternativmedizinischen Kreisen benutzt wird: als Synonym für „Schulmedizin“.

L'allopathie (gr. allos, autre, et pathos, maladie) est un terme utilisé dans la pratique homéopathique pour désigner les traitements de la médecine conventionnelle par opposition à l'homéopathie. Le terme aurait été inventé par Samuel Hahnemann, fondateur de l'homéopathie, pour désigner une thérapie ne recourant pas au principe de similitude (allos signifiant autre ou différent en grec). Dans son traité Organon de l'art de guérir, Samuel Hahnemann utilise le terme de méthode antipathique et purement palliative. Ce terme issu d'une pratique originale est aujourd'hui entré dans le vocabulaire courant. (Robert 2007)
